We are a competitive, non-profit paddling club that re-formed last year out of the combination of the Aquarockets Youth team and the newly-revived Zamboanga Dragonboat Team. The club has a combined history going back over 30 years! We are a full-service club offering both Dragon Boating and Outrigger Canoe (OC) paddling, with six Dragonboat races and at least OC regattas planned for the 2017 season.

The History of our Club

The Zamboanga Paddling Club is from Portland, OR. The team was originally established in 2002 by Alvin Bannister. Alvin named the team after the Filipino city he is from, Zamboanga. The team has competed throughout the West Coast from as far north as Victoria and Vancouver B.C. to south as Long Beach, CA. Zamboanga has competed in multiple Pacific Dragon Boating Association World Qualifiers.

The team was reestablished in 2016. Zamboanga is coached by one of the original members, Frank Rodriguez. Zamboanga also has a youth team, Zamboanga AquaRockets. The AquaRockets is from Franklin High School. The AquaRockets was established in 1998 and was originally named, Franklin AquaRockets. In 2016, the club competed in multiple cities throughout the Northwest (Vancouver B.C.; Olympia; Tacoma; Kent, WA and Portland, OR).

Zamboanga Today

In 2017, Zamboanga will be competing in various dragon boat races including the PDBA in San Diego and for the first time, we'll be competing in Outrigger Regattas!
